Check a spreader setting. Plan the route load.

Enter a measured catch, measured spread width and test distance or time/speed. Keep the setting and material with the result.

The calculator divides measured material by the test area, following MPCA's catch-test example. It uses your chosen measured or target rate for the property areas you enter. Bags are pooled across the route; loose loads use your usable material capacity. Treatment selection stays with the operator, product instructions and site conditions.

Pro Tip: Record each material and setting separately and repeat the measurement after an adjustment. A target-rate load plan is not evidence that the spreader delivers that target.

How It Works

  1. Measure the catch

Follow the equipment maker's collection procedure. Enter net material weight after tare and the measured spread width including where material spreads or bounces. Use measured distance, or time with the corresponding operating speed. Width is not pass spacing or overlap adjustment.

  2. Label the record

Record equipment, material, setting, operator, date and speed with its unit. Enter your target from applicable product and site guidance.

  3. Compare and repeat

Compare measured output with the entered target. Re-test after adjusting the setting. The tool supplies no automatic dial change.

  4. Plan the route

Choose measured or target basis, add named manual property areas, bag weight, usable load capacity and bag price. Print the calibration card and route sheet.

Features & Capabilities

Catch-per-area calculation

Measured-distance and timed-speed tests produce both-unit rates, target catch and signed departure. Zero catch records no discharge and requests a check and re-test.

Manual route worksheet

Named areas use an explicit measured or target basis. Whole bags pool across unrounded route mass; loose loads exclude unused purchased stock. Applied and purchase costs remain separate.

Calibration card and load sheet

Save or share committed inputs and labels. Print both records, or export through the shared ToolGrit PDF panel. Display precision does not establish measurement accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. It compares against a rate you enter; it does not select treatment or determine pavement safety.
Net collected or discharged material after container tare, using the equipment maker's procedure. A partial-width pan catch is not total discharge.
Record speed with the setting. Collection must represent operating conditions; this tool does not program a controller.
Whole bags round upward using the unrounded pooled route mass. Display rounding is for reading.
Required loose material divided by the operator-entered usable material capacity, rounded upward. This is not an axle or legal-payload check.
Applied cost prices the used fraction of a bag; purchase cost prices complete bags. Neither is an application quote.
Disclaimer: Measurement and material-planning worksheet. Follow equipment and product instructions and local operating requirements. It does not select treatment, verify spread uniformity, check vehicle payload or declare pavement safe.
