How It Works

Frequently Asked Questions

Center-to-end is the dimension from the intersection of the pipe centerlines to the end of the fitting (end of pipe stub or weld bevel). Center-to-face is from the centerline intersection to the face of a flanged end. For plain-end fittings, they are the same. For flanged fittings, center-to-face includes the flange thickness.
Long radius (LR) elbows have a bend radius equal to 1.5 times the nominal pipe size. Short radius (SR) elbows have a bend radius equal to 1.0 times the nominal pipe size. LR is standard for most applications; SR is used where space is tight. LR produces less pressure drop and is required by most piping codes for process piping.
Standard butt-weld root gap is 1/16" to 3/32" (1.6-2.4mm) depending on wall thickness and welding procedure. Socket-weld fittings require a 1/16" gap between the pipe end and the socket bottom per ASME B31.3.
